Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale Christmas 2018

Welcome to the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale

The Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale has been providing an eclectic mix of choral music for Chicago's western suburbs for more than 35 years. You'll find everything from the classics to jazz to spirituals on the Chorale's concert programs—all performed by people who love to sing!

The Chorale is home to 60-70 singers from a variety of backgrounds. Our goal is to enjoy and appreciate the gift we have in music, and to bring that gift to you in our concerts.

We hope to see you in our audience very soon!

What Audience Members Are Saying...

  • "I attended on Saturday and it was wonderful. This definitely will become a Christmas tradition for me. Everything was beautiful from the beginning to the end and I especially enjoyed the ending with the lighting of the candles and Silent Night. The entire concert was just what was needed to put me in the Christmas Spirit. Great job everyone!"
  • "Everything was beautiful - the music selections, the voices, the orchestra, the lighting, the processional. The clustering of the 'light' songs at the end was a highlight. Thanks for everyone’s commitment to excellence."
  • "The Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale never disappoints! Their Wintersong concerts are always a source of joy and a beautiful start to the holiday season."

Director's Notes

Jennifer Whiting, Music Director of the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale, and Greg Wheatley, retired Director, share their thoughts about past and future concerts, musical works we've performed, and the many joys of choral music.
  • A Time and Place for Us

The theme A Time and Place for Us emerged from the chorale's long journey to find new locations for rehearsing and performing. After losing our longstanding venue in 2023, our hard-working committee researched 55 sites in the Chicago suburbs. We finally landed at locations in Wheaton and Elmhurst.

One year later, the new rehearsal venue decided they could no longer accommodate us. Our committee took a deep breath and

  • Wintersong 2023: Stella Natalis

We are simply thrilled to share the stage with Anima–Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus for Wintersong 2023! Artistic Director Evan Bruno and I began developing the vision for this intergenerational concert a year ago, and it's been a joyful process.

Several singers in the Glen Ellyn–Wheaton Chorale have childhood roots in Anima. This concert feels like a "full circle" experience to them. The fact that they still seek out choral

  • Dream of Flight

“Dream of Flight,” our concert theme, was inspired by Christopher Tin’s gloriously exciting “Sogno di Volare,” a setting of thoughts by Leonardo da Vinci on the subject of human flight.

What is it about flying that captures our imagination?

Isak Dinesen, the Danish author, remembered her many flights over Africa as “the most transporting pleasure of my life.” She wrote, “Every time I have gone up in an

You might remember Skitch Henderson as the witty pianist and conductor on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in the 1950s. Skitch left Hollywood to establish The New York Pops in 1983.

He commissioned Randol Alan Bass to compose a setting of the Gloria for his New York group. Bass is a noted pianist, singer, conductor, and advocate for non-professional musicians. Prestigious ensembles throughout the United States have
